About 90% of Yearbook digitized.....
09/15/11 07:42 PM
I have been testing some scanning products, and during this process, was able to digitize about 90 percent of our yearbook into PDF files. Since creating PDF files can become rather large. Because of this, it was necessary to break the files into sections.

Back up and running........
09/11/11 08:26 PM
After some technical help from the “Experts”, I think is performance issues have been solved. The issue was caused by the number of photos that the website contains. You may find a different format in which photos are displayed, but other than that, the layout remains the same.
If you encounter any problems, let me know. Use the Contact Page if you like.

Website "redo" almost complete
09/01/11 09:41 AM
Well, after several weeks of anguish dealing with computer/program issues, the redo of our website is almost complete.
It has been uploaded to the server for final testing.
Here are a couple of things that have changed:
I invite you to take a look and offer your comments, especially if you find link that does not connect, etc.
Cheers!

Here are a couple of things that have changed:
- New layout theme and color scheme
- Revised Contact Form Page. It can now be easily accessed from the navigation tabs.
- Photo features have been consolidated and streamlined. I had to cut back on the total number of photos contained in the site, but will periodically rotate photos where needed.
I invite you to take a look and offer your comments, especially if you find link that does not connect, etc.
Cheers!

Our site has a new look
07/11/11 07:57 PM
Due to recent program updates at "my end", and new technology offered on the "other end" by our web host, has made it necessary to "retool" the site.
The obvious changes that can be seen is how the site looks. Note the new scrolling photo mural on the Home Page.
The first attempt to upload the files took place on 7/11/2011. Tweaking and adjusting should take about 10 days, everything should be back to normal
If you encounter any problems click here to drop me an email.
Thanks.

Site Changes and updates
01/20/11 02:20 PM
I have been working on updating and making a few changes to this site. Listed below are the key items:
ChuckR
- Updated the “Where Classmates Have Settled” interactive maps feature.
- Updated “Faculty Memorial” page. Several obituaries were located thanks to the Class of 1960 website.
- The yearly Message Board postings were consolidated/merged into one page, in an effort to streamline site navigation.

Home Page has new photo display
12/15/10 07:43 PM
In an attempt to change the Home Page, and give it a new look, the random photos from our 50th Reunion has been replaced with an photo slide display from the picture archives accumulated since our 10th reunion. The photos displayed will be changed at regular intervals.

Web Administrator's Comments

Other Website news:
• Again, our Message Board is a new look. This was made necessary because of continued unsolicited spam that I was receiving at the MadWest1958 email server. This was traced back to the Message Board server/platform that was driven by WordPress. With the help of the Host of the site, I decided to drop WordPress, and go back to the previous format. This resulted in some loss of data, particularly posts from the last 6-8 months. I am going to attempt to recapture some of the missing data in the coming months.
• Since our 50th Reunion Directory was published, the classmate directory database has accumulated many changes. If anyone would like a current directory in digital (PDF) format, just let me know. You can use the website's Contact Form page to send a message. There is a specific subject title created for requesting the directory file. A sample is shown here:

- Skype: Did you know that 7 classmates use Skype? See the list below. If you have access to Skype, and want your name added to this list, send me an email, or use the Contact Form, and select the subject "Add me to the Skype List". This is a great way to "teleconference" with other classmates from most anywhere on the planet.

Message Board changes
12/03/10 02:42 PM
After spending almost 2 weeks trying to troubleshoot the unsolicited spam that has been traced to random comments on our message board supported by WordPress, I have given up. Some files were destroyed or made unrecoverable.
So, much of the historical content under the “old web site format” going back to 2002 has been resurrected, and put back into place. Links to the past Message Board pages can be found here (Information Center).
It should be noted that some of the links in the “old” pages have been dropped or become inactive. I try to re-establish those links, or will simply remove the affected message.

New material added to "News Clips" Page
05/18/07 07:07 PM
Thanks to Bob Hartwig for providing two recent articles that appeared in the Madison papers. Here are a couple of "teases" to peak your interest to look farther.
1. Do you remember "Snowball"? 2. Did you ever rent a boat at the Wingra Boat Livery.
Visit the "News Clips" page to jog your memories of the past.

New link added to "Links of Interest"
05/05/07 07:10 PM
Thanks to Nancy (Thielen) Ohlman for calling telling me about a website that contains an archive of told-time penny postcards. The images contained on this site are sorted by state and county. I have added a link to this site to our "Links of Interest - General Interest" page. Check it out. It should bring back some memories. If you have any comments, post them here.
Cheers!

"Video Clips" Page added
04/04/07 07:17 PM
Several short video clips have been added to our site as a test to see how this technology works.
1. Pete Mermin's "Applejack" was captured at the 45th reunion. It is less than 30 seconds long, but quite a sight. American Idol watch out!
2. "Before and After" is a 30 second video comparing randomly chosen recent classmate photos on file, compared with corresponding yearbook photo. This feature will change a couple of times a month, just for grins.
3. "Classmate Memorial" video is a photo screen show set to music featuring the yearbook photos of deceased classmates.
4. Randall School 100th Anniversary - August/September 2006 Randall School celebrated its 100th anniversary with an open house. That event was featured on a local TV access program. I was able to obtain a stream of the program, and extract some interviews of several of our classmates who attended Randall. It can be found in the Randall School Centennial section of the site.
You will need RealTime, MS Video or Apple QuickTime viewers plus DSL, Cable or fiber optic connections for these features to work. I would not suggest trying to access these files if you connect to the Internet with a "dial-up" modem.
Let me know if you have any problems. ChuckR
