News about Don Manson

John Ragatz provided the following news he received from Carolyn Manson, concerning Don’s current health challenges.

Dear all,
Sent: 10/4/2011 5:41:31 A.M. Mountain Daylight Time
Subj: Very Sad--John Torphy
I’m writing this for Don.  He broke his hip on the 20th and is now trying to recover, once again, in a rehab facility.  This year has not been good.

And, to add to his pain, John Torphy’s wife, Helen, left us a message that John had passed away after an operation to correct a collapsed lung.  Everything was going fine and he was about to go home when c-diff was found in his blood stream.  Nothing could stop it from killing him.

We are heartsick---John was one of Don’s closest friends.  They had even worked in the same organization when we lived in Washington, DC.  I had spoken with John in August when I hoped to hook up with Helen in Madison.  They had moved to Tucson to be closer to their son and family who live in San Diego.  He was upbeat and doing well looking forward to more time with Grace, the granddaughter.

I didn’t bother to tell you all about Don’s new problem.  It is all so depressing.  He is still being treated for c-diff.  We are preparing to bring him home in awhile and are getting the hospital bed.  I don’t think he’ll be doing much walking with his bad back and now the hip.

I’m sorry to be the bearer of such bad news.  If you want to send condolences, here is the address:

11584 N Vista Ranch Place
Marana, Az  85658

Thank you for all your messages to Don.  I do read the e-mails to him.  It does cheer him up.   How about thatWisconsin team?  He enjoyed the game Saturday and our memories of Camp Randall in Madison were renewed.

We pray you are doing better than us!  2011 has not been a good year.  We have three months to go, so I’m hoping that things improve and we’ll have a GREAT THANKSGIVING.

Carolyn
